Marbella - Favourite of the Rich and Famous
Marbella has come a long way since the 1950's when Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe opened of The Marbella Club. Luxury beachside properties began to be constructed in and around The Marbella Club - now referred to as The Golden Mile. Hollywood celebrities and Europe's Royal Elite began to make Marbella their preferred holiday destination. In the early days, Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant could be spotted in Marbella. Rolling Stones’ star Ronnie Wood, Scottish actor Sean Connery and superstar Prince have also enjoyed the five-star infrastructure, first-class cuisine, and sunny climate. And, back in the 70s, old British gangsters such as the Krays' enforcer Freddie Foreman and Barbara Windsor's ex, Ronnie Knight temporarily gave the town a bad name.
Hugh Grant, his Swedish TV producer girlfriend Anna Eberstein and their two young children enjoyed the Marbella seashore and sunshine. They were seen out and about at a restaurant in the Old Town. Mel Gibson was seen in a restaurant in Ronda. The Starlite Festival will see stars such as Lenny Kravitz, Bryan Adams and Anastacia to Lionel Richie, Julio Iglesias, Santana, The Corrs and Tony Bennett coming to Marbella. Gareth Bale was recently seen playing golf in Sotogrande.
Ellie Redman of TOWIE and 'No carbs before Marbs' fame spends a lot of time in Marbella. She will be opening a Marbella Bootcamp soon that will be similar to her Essex Bootcamp - but with more sun.
In the last few years Marbella has seen the visit of USA’s first lady Michellle Obama and many other celebrities including, Eve Longoria, Ivana Trump, Antonio Banderas .The British prime minister David Cameron has even visited. Concerts in Marbella have seen names such as Alexandra Burke, George Benson, Seal, Tom Jones and Jamiroquai.
Marbella has also become very popular for many of the British TV celebrities like the cast of The Only Way is Essex, Desperate Scousewives and personalities like Katie Price, Peter Andre and Chelsee Healey.

Famous People With Homes In Marbella
In the 1960's Gunilla von Bismarck, great-granddaughter of Germany's first chancellor, Otto von Bismarck moved into Marbella. She was nicknamed the 'The Queen of Marbella', due to her social connections in the area.
In the 1970's Prince Fahd of Saudi Arabia arrived in Marbella and bought a substantial plot of land and built a mini replica in Marble of the US presidents government “White House” building. Recently, Salman Bin Abdelaziz has become the King of Saudi Arabia and owns Al Riyad, the luxurious palace on the Golden Mile. He owns the luxury yacht Shaf of London, which is often seen docked in Puerto Banus. The Saudi royal family have a great passion for Marbella and visit almost every summer. Princess Sultana (one of Salman’s wives) spent long periods in Marbella before her death in 2011. Some of Salman’s children live in Marbella.
Dani Garcia recently moved his Restaurant Calima (two Michelin Stars) to the Hotel Puente Romano, this high-profile Andalusian chef offers innovative cuisine built on contrasts, but which also exhibits traditional flavors of southern Spain.
Lord Alan Sugar bought property in the 70's. He owns a substantial frontline Marbella villa on the Golden Mile.
Antonio Banderas and wife Melanie Griffith own a beach front home just outside Marbella in Los Monteros.
Sean Connery, has recently hit the headlines over his former villa in Marbella, Casa Malibu. He enjoyed many years in Marbella, being a regular visitor to the restaurants in Puerto Banus. He has since moved on.

James Hewitt recently opened a restaurant on Marbella’s Golden Mile called The Polo Club. It was just opposite our apartment. It closed in 2013 but Hewitt remained in Spain to pursue other interests.
TV chef Antony Worrall Thompson known best for his appearences on Ready, Steady, Cook in the 1990s, is enjoying the high life on his avocado farm in the hills above Mijas.
Russian president Vladimir Putin has recently constructed his Benahavis mansion in the hills above Marbella. The "modest" home has two swimming pools, a cinema and a €1 million wine cellar and is one of the most enviable in Andalucia.

HI-NRG popstar and actor, Harris Glenn Milstead vacationed
in Marbella from 1985 to 1987. In
1981 English actress Joan Collins accepted
her career-making role in the hit prime time melodrama Dynasty while living
in her Marbella vacation
home. English writer Vincent Cronin has had a home in Marbella
for decades. Mark Langford, the former, multi-millionaire
boss of The Accident Group was involved in a car accident and died in Marbella on April 11, 2007.
Actor Dolph Lundgren lives with his wife and two children in Marbella and London . English songwriter Richard Daniel Roman.
Porn star Linsey Dawn McKenzie. Mike Reid,
