Trip from Marbella to Mijas
On
the Costa del Sol is the beautiful little village of Mijas, it is 428 meters
above
sea level and commands great views of the coastal area around Fuengirola.
When you wander through the narrow cobbled streets of this Andalucian village,
you can understand what has attracted foreigners to visit and settle here
over the years.
Getting There: From our apartment : Catch any bus from outside our apartment (other side of road) into Marbella (5 mins). Get off at 'Marbella Centro'. Wait at that stop for the 220 service to Fuengirola (every 30 mins). The journey takes 1 hour and travels along the coastal route. Get off at the Fuengirola bus station terminus and catch service 122 to Mijas (15 mins).
On
arrival at Mijas terminus you will see the Casa Constitutional in Mijas .
A impressive white building which gives you a taste of the how well
kept Mijas is.
Many artists and writers have made Mijas their home, enjoying the benefits of an excellent all year round climate. Despite its huge popularity with tourists, Mijas Pueblo has somehow managed to retain much of its traditional Andalucian way of life.
You
will have the chance to ride on a donkey-taxis which line the central
plaza, or if that's too adventurous, to take one of the carriages around
the beautiful whitewashed town on the
traditional cobbled streets.
The craft shops have some affordable paintings and prints by acclaimed local artists, such as Don Clarke and Michele Lehmann. There are plenty of opportunities to aquire wonderful hand made pottery and other local items which would make marvellous holiday mementos.
One of the most interesting buildings in Mijas is the hermitage of El Puerto. Mijas has one of the country's few oval bullrings (it's also small). You can visit the bullfighting museum. There are some interesting churches and other monuments giving insight to its past: Roman, Moorish and Spanish.
The shrine of the Virgin of the Rock holds the
image of the patroness of Mijas, the Virgin of the Rock. In front of it is
a little square where you can sit to have a cold drink and enjoy the panoramic
views.
"El
carromato de Max":
A museum of miniatures, one of the most important of its kind with works
from over 50 countries exhibited in a caravan.
Here you can see Abraham Lincoln on a pinhead, the Last Supper on a grain
of rice and a shrunken head.
Amazing!

The
Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepcion is located in the Plaza de la Constitucion
it was
built in mudejar style in
1541 During restoration
works in 1991 a series of Frescos of the apostles were discovered there dating
back to 1632.
The Fortress walls allow the most amazing viewpoints in Mijas with stunning
views over Fuengirola and Mijas Costa. The gardens surrounding the walls
have flowers all year round.
Have a nice Day
